Two and a half

Happy half birthday!

Over the past two and a half  years I have learned a lot of things. One of the things I have learned is how important routine is in the life of a child. Today I wanted to talk about your bedtime routine and how much I love spending that time with you.

We start off by brushing your teeth. You often try to talk me into letting you use my toothbrush. I just as often tell you no.

Then we move into putting on your pjs. You particularly like jammies that button right now. If I'm the one helping put on your pajamas, I sing the pajama song my dad taught me.

Then we're on to Bible story time, which your dad reads aloud. Your current favorite story is Jonah and the big fish. I enjoy hearing your questions, like wondering where Jonah left his shoes.

Next I get to read to you. I like to stop reading halfway through a page and you'll pick up quoting the story. You know quite a few, including "Goodnight Moon," "Fancy Nancy," and "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." Then you pick a song to sing and we snuggle.

Snuggling is my favorite. You ask me deep questions like:
What are arms made of?
Is Kirsten sleeping?
Why is it dark outside?

As I try to answer your questions, I remember why two and a half is such a wonderful age. Your wonder and joy light up a room. Nothing is commonplace to you. Thank you for letting me see the world through your eyes.
